Recessed lighting is great to use in different rooms in the home. It helps to add to the décor while being functional at the same time. Some people will use it as a type of task lighting in the kitchen or a type of ambient lighting in the dining room. Some might even go so far as to place it beneath works of art for a dramatic affect.
It is easier to install these lights when you are remodeling or building a new home. Installing them into the ceiling through the attic is going to be one of the best things you can do. You will need a drill, drywall saw, pliers, stud finder, screwdrivers, wire nuts, wire, and recessed light fixtures.
Look around and decide where the best place would be when installing these light fixtures. Use a stud finder to know how and where the joists in the ceiling should be running.
Drill a small hole into the ceiling and put in a straight portion of wire coat hanger. Four inches of it should be bent at a ninety degree angle. Spin it three-hundred and sixty degrees to make sure that there is nothing in your way. Continue drilling and looking for anything that might be in your way until you have made enough space for your fixture.
Before you can power up the light you need to turn off the power to that area. Run the wires across the joists by making a hole in the ceiling beneath the joists. Cut a hole in the joist to run the wire through and than patch the ceiling up.
Make an outline of the fixtures at every location. Cut around the outline using a keyhole or drywall saw. Now run the wire from the power source to the holes. When you reach the junction box of the power source you need to put in and clamp eight inches of wire. Strip at least one inch from the end of each of them and fasten them to the existing wires inside of the junction box with wire nuts.
Pull the wire out of the fixture hole and extend it into the fixture’s junction box. Clamp it in place and strip the end of the wire. Use the wire nuts to attach the wiring to the home wire.
Put the wire back into the junction box and push the fixture into the ceiling. Use the clips it came with to secure it into place. Screw in the light bulb and attach any molding around it.
